POOLE will face either Glasgow or Scunthorpe in the Cab Direct Championship Play-Off Final.
The Pirates cruised through to their sixth consecutive title decider on a wet night in Edinburgh on Friday, rain bringing proceedings in the semi-final, second leg, to a premature halt after 12 completed races. But by then, Poole had already secured their passage into the final, the Monarchs never threatening to overturn the 24-point deficit from Wednesday's first leg in Dorset. Lewis Kerr's second place in Heat 10 put the Pirates beyond Edinburgh's reach and the visitors went on to end Monarchs' unbeaten home record, recording a 39-33 win on the night when the result was declared following a first bend crash in Heat 13 for home duo Dan Thompson and Kye Thomson with rain falling. Pirates co-boss Gary Havelock said: “Marvellous, absolutely thoroughly professional. Superb, excellent job. I can't find enough superlatives to talk about the boys. “We could have easily come into this meeting underestimating things, but we didn't. We attacked it from the start. I think the 5-1 in Heat 2 was massive, absolutely massive. So, another Final – fantastic.”
