OXFORD have been forced to call off their opening BSN Series fixture against Plymouth at the BetGoodwin Stadium tonight (Wednesday).
The postponement stems from the loss of the stadium's greyhound streaming contract, which has raised questions about the venue's future viability. Despite initially confirming last week that the Plymouth match would go ahead, Cheetahs promoter Jamie Courtney has now revealed: “You will be aware that over the weekend there have been a series of meetings following the termination of the deal between SIS and Oxford Greyhounds to stream racing from the BetGoodwin Stadium. “Inevitably that decision and subsequent ongoing negotiations impact on Oxford Speedway, and I can confirm that Wednesday’s BSN Series meeting between the Cheetahs and Plymouth will not go ahead. “With complex and involved negotiations between a number of stakeholders, including ourselves, ongoing and the added inconvenience of a double Bank Holiday, I did not feel it was possible to run Wednesday’s meeting. “I firmly believe that it is short-term inconvenience which will have long-term and far-reaching benefits for Oxford Speedway and Oxford Stadium.” Oxford are expected to travel to Plymouth on Saturday to fulfil their BSN Series match against the Gladiators and are planning to open their home programme against Poole at Sandy Lane next Wednesday (April 15).
